Get your party on: 7/25-7/31
Have you offended anyone lately? Been the troublemaker in the family? Have you been spreading general havoc? If so, there’s no better day to change your ways than on July 25, as we celebrate National Get out of the Doghouse Day. Even for those of you prone to that perpetual angelic state of being, you’d have to admit the best way to celebrate is by doing something you know is off limits, knowing that since it’s National Get out of the Doghouse Day, no one can stay mad at you for long. (Remember that timeless advice: ask for forgiveness, not permission…) July 23 is Hot Enough For Ya Day, to which I can currently respond, “no, it isn’t.” With highs in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s and low 50s, … Read entire article »

Get your party on: 7/4-7/10
I trust you’re all out and about, celebrating freedom on this July 4. Let the fireworks begin! Meanwhile, let’s get to some of this week’s other holidays. Oh, the irony with these first two. Chocolate Day and Tell the Truth Day both happen to fall on July 7. I trust you see the problem with this. If it’s Chocolate Day, it only stands to reason that we should (wait for it…) eat chocolate. But here’s the caveat: you’ll have to fess up as to just how much chocolate melts in your mouth. Otherwise, you will be in direct contradiction with this day’s other holiday. I really don’t see any way around this one, people. So my suggestion is quite simple: eat chocolate in moderation, today. Next up, get ready for quite a bizarre piece … Read entire article »

Kate’s Escapades – A Hard Days Night…
Beatles Mania Returns
Beatles Mania has once again invaded the the good old USA, or more specifically…my house. At this very moment as I type, (10pm Wed night)I have not one, but TWO Beatles Rock Band parties are going on simultaneously in my house. The upstairs party is full of bubbly, loud, and not-afraid-to-make-fools-of-themselves, Jr. High aged kids and one oldie…ME (but I’m not loud and I am definitely afraid of making a fool of myself.) It’s an animated raucous group. The downstairs party consists of the much more reserved high school and college aged kids who are trying to look aloof and uninterested while playing, but just try stepping in front of them and blocking their view for a millisecond for a photo and you risk a public flogging, not that I was … Read entire article »

Liz’s Rants: Paper or plastic?
This is truly an experience that, had it not been for my desire to purchase a Star Wars-themed tablecloth for my son’s birthday, would never have occurred. I’m really not a tablecloth girl. Primarily because the ones I’m willing to pay for are usually vinyl, and I’m not industrious enough to make my own. Rarely (Christmas would likely be the exception) do I find a premade table covering made of real, uh, cloth, that I like. And I wouldn’t have been searching for a Star Wars tablecloth had I not been desperate to come up with additional decorations for the party. (In retrospect, I should have called Kate…)But for one day I figured I could suck it up and just get a paper one. Except I couldn’t find one. Oh I found Star … Read entire article »
