Liz’s rant: The burning bush that didn’t

It was about this time last year when I remember looking out of the window and seeing this huge, brilliant red object across the street on the grounds of St. Michael’s Church. It almost looked as if something was on fire. On closer inspection, I realized the intense red color was beaming out from a burning bush. We were able to enjoy that burning red color for several weeks, if memory serves. In fact, it was still glowing after the leaves had fallen from all the other trees. But for some reason, I never thought to take a photo of it. No matter, I thought. I’ll snap a couple this year. As the kids and I headed to the store a couple of weeks ago, we commented on the bush as we walked … Read entire article »

Guest Rant: Procrastination Marmalade
Marcie Coulter

Did you know that procrastination is rising to the level of a mental health issue? That procrastination is causing us to be poorer and fatter? And that men are worse than women? Duh – of course you did. We all do. But just in case your jury was still out, here’s an article that might help. Or not. Liz’s Rant: The grass is always greener… or is it?

Today we take a little trip down memory lane – and then come back to the future as it were. I told this story more than a year ago, I think. It bears repeating, though. And the update will make it more than worth your time… More than a year ago, I moved into this house only to discover that the grass in the yard grew. A lot… I’d called on my brother, back then. Brat that he is… “Sure, you can borrow the mower,” he’d said. “Come on over.” Which was when I’d reached one of my lowest points ever, and had gone to collect his mower… Before he put it in the trunk, he moved on to the lawn mower directives, which came alarmingly without complication. “The rollers have to be facing toward … Read entire article »

Kate’s Escapades – In a Word…”Chaos”

To the outside world (and by outside world, I mean anyone who has never lived with me long enough to see behind the facade) I’m sure I appear to have my act together.  My kids get to school on-time with matching clothes, combed hair and clean faces (usually).  I cook dinner most nights of the week. I play taxi driver, get the dishes done and sweep the floor every day.  I sign up to bring food to church socials.  I read my books for book club and I show up to appointments on time.  I don’t wear my pj’s to go shopping. I am an organized super-woman who can do it all.  (And that is so far from the truth, I’m surprised I wasn’t struck by lightning while typing that sentence.)  It’s … Read entire article »
