Kate’s Escapades – If you can’t say something nice…

Cooking everyday (or even just a few days a week) can become a bit of a dreaded chore. Let’s face it, we are busy people these days and sometimes getting a meal on the table seems to be a nearly impossible task. I know this. You know this.  Liz really, REALLY knows this. I was originally just sharing my recipes with Liz, but quickly realized there are a lot of people out there struggling with the same “I want to feed my family a good home cooked dinner or dessert, but I really don’t have the time to do it” dilemma. That’s why I started running my Recipe of the Week, featuring fast, easy, and yet still yummy, food ideas. So on this past Sunday a  reader left this lovely comment … Read entire article »

Kate’s Escapades – National Doughnut Day

If you’ve come to Coffee Break today looking for my weekly movie review…surprise! No review today. That’s because the  big movie opening this weekend is “Killers”, and the folks in charge at Lionsgate have decided not to allow advance screenings for critics. They would prefer to let the audience decide if they like the movie and then let the word spread on Twitter and Facebook. Imagine that! “We want to capitalize on the revolution in social media by letting audiences and critics define this film concurrently,” Lionsgate said in a statement late Wednesday. “In today’s socially connected marketplace, we all have the ability to share feedback instantly around the world. In keeping with this spirit, Lionsgate and the filmmakers want to give the opportunity to moviegoing audiences and critics alike to … Read entire article »

Liz’s rant: The Socialites

It’s official kids – Liz and Kate are inviting you to join us on Facebook, the premiere social networking site… or something like that. We are, afterall, two coffee-drinking, social-lovin’ butterflies. Seriously, we’ve been on there for a while, and we even have a few friends. I guess we kinda laid low in the beginning, posting our rants and adventures every now and then, but we really weren’t involved, as it were. Something was missing… During a conversation with Kate the other day, we realized what that missing link was – you! You guys are our support system! You guys are the ones that read the posts without prompts or an occasional bribe, if need be. You guys see the posts right here on the website – you’re regular readers who I am … Read entire article »

Kate’s Escapades – Validation of my Procrastination

I’ve been putting it off for over a week now. Procrastinating. Justifying. Ignoring. Avoiding. What is this thing that is so dreaded that I am putting so much energy into NOT doing it? This chore that I’m working so hard at forgetting? I’m talking about taking down the Christmas decorations, of course. Sure, they are all fun and exciting and sparkly in November, when I just can’t wait to crack open the red and green storage tubs to see my holiday treasures that have been hidden away for almost a year. But by the time the first week of January hits, those very same precious  snowmen, Santas and ornaments have become dusty, commonplace and overlooked. Suddenly they have evolved into one of my least favorite household duties. Every day for  the past week … Read entire article »

Liz’s rant: Social networking undermining craftdown

OK, so maybe I exaggerate. But the verdict is still out. Regardless, here’s what I know. Shortly after our now-famous craftdown to Christmas began, I wrote a post on Facebook, as to the next step in submitting a craft, recipe, etc. for this grandest of grand ideas. Things went downhill from there. A reader had submitted a recipe by clicking onto the Facebook link to this site. But not only could Kate and I not see her her comments, her recipe was nowhere to be found. So I decided to click on the link to Coffee Break that I’d offered up on Facebook. And, voila – her comment was there. (Although I still didn’t see her recipe). It was only after several hours of time and a lengthy email exchange that I had … Read entire article »
