Kate’s Escapades – I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells…and other things Dr. Seuss taught me about life. “Kid, you’ll move mountains!  Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So…get on your way!” – Dr. Seuss Today (March 2) is Dr. Seuss Day…a day celebrated in elementary schools all across this country. My own kids started off the day with Dad’s and Donuts before school. The object of this celebration is to see if  kids can drag their dads to school at the crack of dawn to eat a donut, and read a book, simultaneously, and preferably without getting the donut all over said book. Liz’s Rants – I hate homework

Remember when you were in first grade? Those were good times – at least for me. Hard work meant choosing between the lilac or hot pink crayon. My, how things change. Flash forward to 2009 and my son Colton’s first grade class. The assignment was straightforward, stapled to a massive 11-by-17 sheet of paper, folded in half. In honor of Dr. Seuss, each child was asked to pick their favorite author, draw a picture of him or her and write a brief biography on the inside pages. The front “cover” was to be a drawing of one of the author’s books. The back “cover” was for a summary of the book.
