Do you remember the movie Liar, Liar? There’s a scene where Jim Carrey’s assistant, played by Anne Haney, gets fed up with the whole dirty lawyer deal and quits her job. As Carrey’s character begs her to stay, she relates a story to him that goes something like this:

Several years ago, a friend of mine had a burglar on her roof. He fell through the kitchen skylight, landed on a cutting board on a butcher’s knife and cut his leg. The burglar sued my friend. My friend had to pay the burglar $6.000. Is that justice?

To which Carrey’s character responds, “No, Id have gotten him $10,000…”

This brings me to today’s oddball story, which proves once again that life can be stranger than fiction.

It seems an Oregon man recently broke into a home. While there, he decided to take a shower, since the owners of the home weren’t there. While the burglar is in the shower, the woman of the house returns. So the burglar locks himself in the bathroom and proceeds to make the most unlikely of calls. This from an ABC news report:

“I just broke into a house and the owners came home…I think they have guns,” the man told 911.

Yes, you read that right. The intruder called 911.

The owner of the home, meanwhile, confronts the intruder (through the bathroom door)

“Why are you in my house taking a shower?”

“I broke in. I was kidnapped,” the intruder responded.

The homeowner then proceeds to tell the burglar she’s going to call the police.

“I’ve already called them. They’re on the phone right now.”

Just for yucks and grins, here’s the audio of the 911 call:

And in case you’re hankering to hear about more stupid criminals, there’s this gem:

I think these little tidbits also prove that stupidity is alive and well. And now you know.
