I've done that too. I had a new baby and newly potty-trained 3 year old with a bladder the size of a pea (no pun intended). My husband wasn't with me but I didn't travel alone as my in-laws and my husband's grandma were with us. We drove up the California coast from San Diego to the bay area. The smartest thing I did was bring the potty chair because we were making stops every 20-30 minutes. It was much easier to just pull over to the side of the road than try to find a restroom in the middle of nowhere. I think it was a memorable trip for all especially for my FIL who didn't seem to remember having kids.
