Regardless of his accomplishments, it was rude and classless. I’m being neutral in that I don’t particularly like either of them, and from my “third party” view, I think it was pretty uncalled for. I respect that Kanye has his opinions, and I’m sure he wasn’t the only one to think that Beyonce should’ve won over Taylor, but he didn’t need to interrupt Taylor to say so. And sorry if it seems like I’m taking Taylor’s “side,” but Taylor took the apology graciously, something I’m not sure Kanye would’ve done.
I think instead of focusing on Kanye we should focus on Beyonce. I think it was sweet of her to relate her own first time winning to Taylor’s, and it was nice of her to give up her speech time.
And yes, I agree, it could possibly have been staged for publicity. But I would like to point out that even though Kanye has done this before doesn’t mean it’s ok for him to do it. In any situation, not just this one.

Jesse…it’s true the buzz does seem to be going around on the internet that possibly this whole thing was planned or staged for publicity. We may never know the real story. I am unsure myself if it was real or staged. Denise: Yes, you got it. I agree but can also respect Mr. West for having the confidence to not conform.

Nell Withers McCauley: I don’t agree. Rude? Yes, what he did was rude. Disrespectful? No, Kanye said, “Taylor, I’m really happy for you and I going to let you finish…” I’d say that showed some respect (not enough but some).

Zach: Glad you could make it, and I agree. How much attention have the terrorists in Colorado gotten? None compared the the Kanye West/Taylor Swift debacle of 2009 that generations will remember. /sarcasm

Whit: That is one thing that has been annoying me. This is certainly not the first time Kanye has done this, but Americans don’t realize this (I’m an American by the way). They act like he thought of this on the spot and hasn’t been known to do this. I don’t think Kanye West is retarded but I think it could have been easily staged.

By the way, anyone else hear the update on this situation? I did. Apparently, Kanye West and Taylor Swift have the same agent and had a secret meeting a week before the VMA’s. Just adding something to mix into the stew…

This was not Kanyas first time to do that, he did it a year or two ago at the European VMA’s almost word for word. I think he’s a retard and it was all just a big publicity stunt! For him, Taylor and The VMA’s.

Kanye should not be getting this much attention, It wasn’t even that big of a deal. So what, he was drunk. Get over it America. (and from what I’ve recently heard, this whole thing was -staged- , they met before hand)

I think what he did was just plain rude, lack of repect and very self centered. It was her moment in the spotlight not his… if he wanted to say something about the fact that he felt that somebody else should have gotten the award it should have been after the show….

Wow! Lots of great dialogue here. Kate, Liz – I applaud you for adding Jesse’s post when it is so clearly in direct conflict with what you believe. And Jesse, I applaud you as well for speaking up for who and what you believe in.

I absolutely abhor what Kanye did, not because I feel sorry for Swift, certainly not because I am a Swift fan, and not because I dislike Kanye, but rather because it is representative of the lack of common courtesy, respect for others, and decency that I see so much of today, and not just among the rich and famous.
