So I recently stepped on the scale and noticed an eight-pound, uh, shall we say descrepancy in my weight. Not exactly a finding that made me feel like dancin’. Then I looked at the calendar and observed that May 11 is Eat What You Want Day.
Not a good combination to be sure. If I follow this holiday, I could easily see another two to three-pound gain overnight. Because what I want to eat is pasta and ice cream and other comfort foods. Why? Because I need to find comfort in the fact that I’ve gained eight pounds over the winter. In my most humble opinion, this holiday is ill-timed to say the least.
Perhaps not as ill-timed as National Nutty Fudge Day, though, which falls on May 12. I’m tasting conspiracy, here. This date is also Limmerick Day. I’ve never been overly fond of limmericks either, so this is the best I’ve got:
“There once was a girl who stepped on the scales in the beginning days of the spring.
She’d gained eight pounds, which got her down. So she dieted to get back her bling.”
Oddly enough, Root Canal Appreciation Day follows on May 13. Who are these people kidding?
UGH. As the downward spiral continues, we might as well get National Chocolate Chip Day out of the way, too. It falls on May 15. Some argue that this holiday is celebrated on August 4. At this point, do you really think it matters?
May 16 is National Sea Monkey Day. When I was little, I always wanted a tankfull of sea monkeys. I feel a good shrimp cocktail coming on… I bet you’re feeling a little celebration brewing as well. To that end, here’s a little video you can watch while eating:
Until next week, get your party on!
