Get your party on: 10/3-10/9

palooza1Remember years ago when CB radios were all the rage? I begged my parents to get one – to no avail. Yep, I’m probably scarred for life over this one, especially on Oct. 4, the date deemed 10-4 Day.

I did have a Nextel push-to-talk at one point. It was the preferred method of communication at one of the newspapers I worked for. We 10-4′d and 10-20′d each other a lot back then. “What’s your 20?” was probably my favorite line. I have to admit, though, that the little beeping noise got really old, really fast.

Obviously, this holiday is getting really old, really fast, too.  And to tell you the truth, I have no idea why 10-4 is a holiday. But it is. Let’s move on.

National Frappe  Day is Oct. 4 too. This one could be fun. Since there’s a lot of disagreement over what actually goes into a frappe (ice cream, whipped cream, yogurt, milk…) throw your favorite ingredients into the blender and see what you can call it. Hopefully, you’ll end up with a tasty frappe – not crappe.

Oct. 6 is Come and Take It Day – not to be confused with the phrase “come and get it.” The latter is typically construed as a friendly invitation, where the former almost sounds like a challenge – perhaps even a threat. So you may wanna employ a little thought before jumping right into this one.

Curious Events Day is Oct. 9. This one could easily be celebrated over the course of a year, because when you think about it, there’s plenty to be curious about.

Take bleu cheese, for example. I love the stuff. It’s the key ingredient in my favorite dressing. But why do we eat cheese that is clearly packed full of mold? Pretty gross if you ask me. So they strategically name it bleu cheese, thinking that a nice catchy name will distract from the reality of the cheese. If they named it moldy cheese, I imagine sales would plummet.

As luck would have it, the 9th is also Moldy Cheese Day. Isn’t that curious…

Until next week, get your party on!
