Kate says – 3 stars “Everybody’s Fine is a warm and touching movie full of solid quiet performances on all fronts, but especially by De Niro, who’s calm and understated portrayal of Frank Goode is both believable and emotional. The story line does follow a predictable path, and the movie ends up pretty much just how moviegoers think it will end up, but here’s the thing, every movie does not have to be earth shattering and ground breaking.  Sometimes it’s okay to just tell a heartwarming, enjoyable and poignant story.”

Ebert says – 2 1/2 stars “Everybody’s Fine” tells the story Frank Goode’s journey and his discoveries along the way. If we have seen a dozen movies in our lifetime, we can feel pretty safe in predicting that each child will reveal, and present, a different kind of problem. That Larry will discover things he didn’t know about himself and them. That he will re-evaluate his life in the process…All that could redeem this thoroughly foreseeable unfolding would be colorful characters and good acting. “Everybody’s Fine” comes close, but not close enough.” (read full review)

Andrew Barker (Variety) says“Much of Kirk Jones family-reconciliation drama “Everybody’s Fine” takes place on  steadily moving trains, Greyhounds and 18-wheelers, appropriately enough for a film that moves reliably and ineluctably towards a well-mapped denouement.  Though a bit too artful to merit the pejorative “tearjerker” label, the film is rigorously streamlined to deliver a good emotional uppercut by the end, and purely on the strength of its craft, it connects.” (read full review)

Katey Rich (CinemaBlend) says – 2 1/2 stars The movie is pretty much the Marley and Me of this holiday season, except in the place of an adorable yellow lab there’s adorable Robert De Niro, playing the aging dad that everyone feels bad about not calling frequently enough. Even though Everybody’s Fine is not at all the Christmas movie it’s being marketed as, it may as well be one, pleasant and cozy and just challenging enough to not feel like a Hallmark movie.” (read full review)
