Second Glance – Holi Moly, It’s the Festival of Colors 2011

Coming up this weekend (March 24 & 25) is one of my very, VERY favorite things ever…the annual Festival of Colors at the Hare Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, UT. It’s pretty much the coolest thing ever. I have a new lens for my Nikon D3000 that I can’t wait to try out, so get ready for next week’s Picture Me a Monday ’cause it’s gonna be a rockin’ slide show from this year’s festival. Here’s … Read entire article »

Introducing KitchenKuffs – Liz’s Rave!

Introducing KitchenKuffs – Liz’s Rave!

There are several statements that take place in our house over and over again: Pick up your dirty clothes Chew with your mouth closed Throw away your trash And my all-time least favorite: Can someone come push up my sleeves?!?! PLEASE!?!? Well, Kate, bar the door, those days are gone. May I present: KitchenKuffs!!! That’s right, people. It’s time to say goodbye to soggy sleeves! The brainchild of Barbara Doran, KitchenKuffs mean you’ll never have suds-soaked cuffs (or anything else, for that matter) on … Read entire article »

Kate goes on an Adventure to an Oxygen Bar

Kate goes on an Adventure to an Oxygen Bar

Kate Goes to an Oxygen Bar. Tag along with Kate as she makes an attempt at being cool, hip and trendy. Oxygen bars are all the rage these days among the young trendy yuppie types. While I’ll be the first to admit that I am neither young or trendy, I do occasionally try to be hip. My latest attempt at “hipness” involved putting pink plastic tubes up my nose and breathing  the scent of an orange … Read entire article »

Thank heavens for little gray rainclouds – Kate’s Escapades

Middle of nowhere. Cracked radiator. 115 degrees. No cell service. Stupid dumb auto protection service that is not smarter than their stupid dumb computer program. Stupid. Dumb. Oh man, I really need a vacation from my vacation. More precisely, a vacation after my vacation. I should probably tell you that I spend nine looong months of the year impatiently waiting for the warm, delicious, relaxing, rejuvenating  too short three months of summer. No homework for the kids (or the mom, come on ladies, you know exactly what I mean), no strict bedtimes, the water park just calling our names, beckoning us to frolic and play. Without going on too much of a whining streak, let me just say that this was the summer that wasn’t, which quickly turned into the vacation that … Read entire article »

Liz’s rant: Get In the Kitchen – with Liz and Kate!

By now, you’ve probably noticed the two new ads on our site. So I figured it was time to tell you a little more about our products and why we’re now salesmen, in addition to holding our day jobs as two zany women Let’s talk about the cookbook first, In the Kitchen with Liz and KatePractically Painless Recipes! I’m tellin’ ya – we cover it all: breakfast, lunch, dinner from appetizers to desserts. It’s my opinion that this cookbook will become a family favorite, because the recipes are so easy, and the variety is fantastic. These aren’t just any ol’ recipes, either. They’re the ones Kate and I use in our kitchens. And for me, that’s really saying something, because if someone asks me what I’m making for dinner, my … Read entire article »

Look where my Sanuks took me – week 4

“My latest Sanuk adventure finds me at the Kentucky Horse Park, enjoying the sights and sounds of the World Equestrian Games. After more than five hours of walking, my feet were still happy campers in my EspaThrills! Even Rock Solid Story, a Palomino Quarter horse affectionately known as “Hank”, knows a great pair of footwear when he sees it. As far as Hank was concerned, it was love at first bite!” ~ Liz Where will your Sanuks take you? What’s a Sanuk ? Well, for one thing, it’s the Thai word for fun. But also, it’s an unconventional little “semi-proper footwear company”, (their words not ours) that we’ve stumbled upon. ♦They’re quirky. ♦They’re comfy. ♦They’re cool. ♦They’re not shoes, they’re sandals. We love ‘em! Check out this cool footwear from Sanuk (Liz is wearing EspaThrills in gray, provided by Sanuk.) … Read entire article »

Kate goes on an adventure to a bomb shelter

Kate goes on an adventure to a bomb shelter

I spent this past Saturday in the middle of nowhere, traipsing through knee high weeds in the wide open fields of Clyde, Idaho. I am not joking when I say Clyde is smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Here are shots of all four directions at the exact spot my GPS lady (with her sophisticated English accent) told me I was “arriving at destination”, Clyde, Idaho.. I thought it was so funny I just … Read entire article »

Guest rant – What Exactly Does a Black Amethyst Smell Like? by Ryane McKinnon

I’ve always wondered who writes the descriptions of lotions, perfumes, or shampoos. I mean, it must be someone’s job to write something like, “Indulge your senses with soft lilacs with this luxurious moisturizing wash.” Or maybe, “Let the scent of apple blossoms transport you to a place of beauty and tranquility.” Those were surprisingly easy to come up with, but might have made the literary part of me die a little. As terrible as these beauty product descriptions are, at least they identify an actual scent. I have noticed recently that many products have names that are not scents at all and do absolutely nothing to inform you what the product is supposed to smell like. Bath and Body Works is one of the worst offenders. I found a new scent … Read entire article »

Kate goes on an adventure to the Demolition Derby!

Well, I did it again! I got my white trash fix for the year at the annual county fair demolition derby this past weekend. Really, can you think of any single event that is more white-trashy than watching spray painted clunker cars smash each other to smithereens? Nope, I didn’t think you could. And before you get all up in arms here at my use of the term “white trash”, let me assure I mean it in the most loving, accepting, non-derogatory way possible. In fact I am including myself squarely in the white trash category for this one night a year. I even toyed with the idea of sporting a tube top, short jean skirt and cowboy boots, but fortunately for those sitting around me, I decided I was … Read entire article »
