It’s National Pretzel Day – Go ahead and celebrate!
You know you want to.
Today, April 26, is National Pretzel Day! I’ll take any old reason to celebrate, especially when there are salty snacks are involved. How did the lowly and oft overlooked pretzel get it’s start? I took a little cruise around the internet and found that most agree the first pretzels were created around 600 AD by Catholic monks using left over dough which was twisted into the pretzel knot we know today. Some say the knot shape … Read entire article »

Liz’s Top Seven ways to use boiled eggs
You know the drill. Easter is over. Chocolate bunnies sit in their baskets devoid of ears, pieces of shiny fake green grass are strewn from one end of the house to the other, and no fewer than two dozen eggs bide their time in the refrigerator, asking themselves but one thing: “Will we be eaten? Or tossed to the curb with all that shiny fake green grass?” Which is where I make a confession. As much as … Read entire article »

Since Easter is only days away, I’ve been out stocking up on my Peeps supply. April Fools’ Day Frozen Cereal Prank
Over the years, I’ve been known to play some fairly elaborate April Fools’ Day food pranks on my family. It’s almost always at dinnertime, so they have learned to have their guard up and to expect to be pranked with their dinner. (Past successes…Cupcake Dinner Prank and Meatloaf/Cake Dinner Prank) Last year I decided to mix it up a bit and catch them off guard with a breakfast prank. Kate’s Escapades – April Fools’ Day Food Prank
Since April Fools’ Day is coming up in a few days, we decided this post from two years ago is worth a Second Glance... It’s finally here. The day when I get to release my pent up immaturity…the day when it’s perfectly acceptable for me to feel mischievous and sneaky…the day when I get to be all the things I try to teach my kids not to be. I must confess, when I was writing yesterday’s ridiculous … Read entire article »

Let’s Eat – Egg in a Basket
My 22 year old son was about to cook some fried eggs and toast for breakfast the other day when he remembered an all-time favorite breakfast he used to eat at our neighbor’s house when he was a little kid. He didn’t know what it was called, but said it was a fried egg inside a hole in a slice of toast. Some quick googling and we discovered it’s called Egg in a Basket, Bird’s … Read entire article »

Kate’s Escapades – Fat Tuesday means pancakes for dinner
“(Tuesday) is Fat Tuesday, and of course, this being America, it will be followed by Even Fatter Wednesday, Obese Thursday and Fat-A** Friday.” –Jay Leno How much do you love a holiday that has as it’s main objective encouraging you to pig out? I’m talking about Fat Tuesday, of course, which just happens to be today. Or perhaps in this politically correct day and age, we should call it “big-boned Tuesday” or possibly “full-figured Tuesday”. Kate’s Escapades – Let’s Talk Turkey
The big day is almost here. We have a Thanksgiving motto at my house… Gobble ’til You Wobble! A perfectly acceptable motto for one day of the year, don’t you think? Well, maybe you could stretch that out to two days, if you have enough leftovers. But three days? Don’t try it unless you are expecting a gym membership for Christmas. The star of every Thanksgiving feast is certainly the turkey. And probably nothing strikes more fear into a cook than taking that heavy, slimy, pale blob of meat and bones, and turning it into the perfectly golden delicious main dish. I myself have only cooked one turkey over the years, as that Thanksgiving tradition has always been left to my mother and mother-in-law. I’m sure my day is coming. I found an amazing … Read entire article »
