Get your party on: 2/21-2/27

Wow! Are we having fun yet? I trust all of you did your party to ward off winter yesterday, hoodie-hooin’ everywhere you went. The weather will be the judge of how well you performed, of course. For the love of Mike, I sure hope you did well.
I say that because Feb. 22 is For the Love of Mike Day.
Please don’t ask who Mike is. The best I can do is tell you of a 1927 movie by the same name. Directed by Frank Capra, the movie told the story …

Get your party on: 2/7 – 2/13

Well, I’m back, Coffee Breakers! And so are the holidays, so without further ado, we’re gonna pretend like there aren’t many holidays on Feb. 7 (and the truth is, the biggie is the Super Bowl and Man Day. Man Day could theoretically open up a can of worms, so I think it’s best this way…)
But Feb. 8 is a big day for anyone struggling financially. You think I’m kidding? HA! Get ready for Laugh and Get Rich Day. Beecause apparently, yes – it’s that simple. I think this one probably …

Get your party on: 1/17-1/23

We have an amazingly strange week of holidays this week, beginning with none other than Doo Dah Parade Day on Jan. 18.  Oddly enough, there are several days of the year when this one is celebrated, and apparently Pasadena has quite the parade (not on the 18th…). but since I can’t figure out what the sam hill this one is all about, let’s all break out in a round of Camp Town Ladies sing this song… doo dah… doodah… and leave well enough alone, shall we?
Rid the World of Fad …

Get your party on: 1/10-1/16

Are there days when you feel different from the rest of the crowd? Perhaps a bit odd or special – maybe even strange? If so, you may want to take note on Jan. 10, when we celebrate Peculiar People Day.
In case you don’t feel you’ve ever been a bit peculiar at one point or another (and I would beg to differ), this
is probably a good opportunity to get away with acting, dressing or embracing your peculiarities. See Exhibit A.
For those of you who don’t own a Hello Kitty hat, …

Get your party on 12/20-12/26

Folks, we’re a little light on holidays this week. Well, not really. Friday is Christmas Day! But as I’m sure you’ve come to learn, we aren’t about traditional holidays, here. We’re about all the bizarre holidays that otherwise would go un-noticed and without celebration.
There are weeks where that could be a blessing, but we’ll worry about that later.
Dec. 21 is a day that I’m betting could come at several points during the month of December: it’s Humbug Day. Trust me when I tell you I’ve been there, done that, lately. …

Get your party on: 12/13-12/19

With the countdown to Christmas at T Minus 12 days, things are getting pretty hectic around here. I suspect the same is true for you guys. Although many of us are focused on the 24th and 25th, there are other holidays between now and then, believe it or not.
Let’s begin with one near and dear to me – Bill of Rights Day, which lands on Dec. 15. Instead of hopping on my soapbox and stressing the importance of these rights, and turning this into civics 101, I’ll bring  you a …

Get your party on: 11/15-11/21

Greetings, partiers. Let’s jump right into the thick of it where all-things-holiday are concerned. Nov. 15 is I Love To Write Day. This is certainly one I can identify with, since I write for a living. As as all writers know, just because we do what we love and love what we do, there are days when the words just don’t flow.
I think that’s easy enough to explain – writer’s block, lack of inspiration, or a cluttered mind stand in the way of all writers at one time or another. …

Get your party on: 11/8-11/14

When I think of the phrase “aid and abet,” the first word that comes to mind is: illegal. So as we celebrate Abet and Aid Punsters Day on Nov. 8, I trust you will take the high road, keeping your own abetting and aiding in check, please.
I think we all have a punster inside – I know I do. In fact, family dinners are often loaded with puns and jabs and crazy jokes that find us doing a lot of eye-rolling. Here’s a site that’s devoted to puns. Check it …

Get your party on: 11/1-11/7

First, I need to prepare you for the fact that wacky holidays are rather slim pickins for the next couple of weeks. But by mid-month, the action picks up again.
Let’s start with Sandwich Day on Nov. 3. Certainly we’d all agree that there’s nothing particularly strange about sandwiches, but I do find it odd that sandwiches would need their own holiday. What do I know…
Perhaps the funniest sandwich story comes from Iran, where, in 2008, participants went to work building the World’s Largest Sandwich. Stretching nearly a mile in length, …

Get your party on: 10/25-10/31

Bring out the lemons, pucker up, and get those saliva glands rolling on Oct. 24 as we celebrate the ever-popular Sourest Day.  Sounds to me like someone is taking revenge on Sweetest Day, but that’s neither here nor there.
Regardless of this holiday’s history (because I couldn’t find a history…) I suggest taking a look at a slew of sour candies that can be found at this  store.
Cranky Co-Workers Day follows on Oct. 27. You’ll be cranky, too, if you fail to celebrate Sourest Day…
Quite frankly, the holidays seem to go …
