Subway Art – St. Patrick’s Day
I’m really loving this new decorating trend called Subway Art. I suppose it’s got it’s name because it mimics the graffiti found in the subways, only this version is a lot less messy and won’t land you in jail. I first noticed Subway Art in friends houses around Christmastime. I let the idea roll around in my brain for a few months and voila! out popped an idea. Yep, I’m … Read entire article »

Thanksgiving Craft – what else but… a turkey!
Call me sentimental, but this craft represents one of my favorite holiday decorations that Colton has brought home from school. Unfortunately, his is now old and faded, so he and I decided to recreate it! Let’s be honest. If we’re taking on this project, how hard can it be? It’s really a great craft for kids – and requires a relatively short list of supplies. Chances are, you already have everything you need on hand. What you’ll need: One paper grocery bag One small paper bag Old newspaper for stuffing bags Duct tape or other wide tape Glue (whatever you have on hand) Scissors Construction paper in colors of choice Instructions: 1. Begin by stuffing the large (body) and small (head) grocery bags with wadded up newspaper. You can gather the bag as you stuff to get a feel of how … Read entire article »

Here Comes the Bride – Kate’s Escapades
Once in awhile, Right in the middle of an ordinary life, Love gives us a fairy tale. ~ Anonymous ~ My daughter got married this past Saturday. It was a wonderful, beautiful, amazing, emotional, exhausting day…and I wouldn’t trade one precious minute of it. She is the first of my seven children to get married (5 of the 7 are girls, yikes!!) and I’ve learned a thing or two over the past few months about what I will (or won’t) do the next time one of my kids decides to say “I do.” Here’s a big ‘Will Do Again’ that was a huge success at the reception… We rented a Photo Booth! That’s right, an honest to goodness photo booth, you know, the kind where you step inside, take a seat on the bench, pick out a few … Read entire article »

Kate’s Escapades –
How to make Harry Potter Wands
Unless you’ve been in solitary confinement in Azkaban for the past few months, you know that we are mere hours away from the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. At my house we are counting down the minutes until the magical moment. (It’s no secret that I have some Harry Potter fanatics in my family. You can check out the party we had a few summers ago to celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince here.) Anyway, we found a fabulous craft to keep ourselves occupied, and to help us while away the hours until the big event at 12:01 on Thursday night. (Unless of course you’re lucky enough to be me this week. I get to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part … Read entire article »

Best Dressed Bride Game – Kate’s Escapades
My daughter is getting married in less than two weeks and we are in full bridal mode at our house, meaning we pretty much eat, sleep and breathe all things wedding. This is my first go-round at being mother-of-the-bride (I’ve got 5 daughters) and I’m certainly learning some tips along the way that I’ll share with you over the coming weeks. We played a really fun and easy game at my daughter’s bridal shower a few months ago, which seemed to be a hit with the guests. We called it the Best Dressed Bride Game, but it could also be called the Toilet Paper Bridal Gown Game or Design Your Own Bridal Gown Game. Best Dressed Bride Game Supplies: toilet paper teams of shower guests Instructions: Divide the shower guests into teams of four or five and place … Read entire article »

It is so cute I can’t even stand it! This idea comes from Kristine McKay at BlogHer. Click here for directions and to print the labels. Pretty daunting. So this evening, four of my daughters and I are hosting a ‘Garden Tea Party’ bridal shower for the lucky bride-to-be. We’ve come up with a really fun game to play at the shower that’s a little different than the usual standard bridal shower party game. Guess the Celebrity Bride Game Supplies: Bridal Magazines Magazines with celebrity pictures (like People, US, Entertainment Weekly) Scrapbook paper Glue Scissors Paper and pencils for the bridal shower guests Directions: For me, making this game was ridiculous amounts of fun.
