The Book Thief
Author: Markus Zusak
552 pages (and I loved every single one of them)
Death is the narrator for this WWII-era story about nine year old Lisa Meminger, who is taken to Molching, Germany to live with foster parents in a neighborhood of tough kids, sharp-tongued mothers and hard working dads. It’s a story of faith, love and hope in the midst of tragedy
Here is an excerpt of Death’s narration…
“The last time I saw her was red. The sky was like soup, boiling and stirring. In some places, it was burned. There were black crumbs, and pepper, streaked across the redness.
Earlier, kids had been playing hopscotch there, on the street that looked like oil-stained pages. When I arrived, I could still hear the echos. The feet tapping the road. The children-voices laughing, and the smiles like salt, but decaying fast.
Then bombs.”
.Kate- 5 stars I am absolutely in love with this book. The Book Thief is not a quick or easy read, but well worth every minute spent. The narration by Zusak is exceptionally poetic and descriptive. The characters will quickly work their way into your heart. He has a writing style unlike any I’ve ever read before.
Goodreads – 4.39 stars

The Book Thief

I loved this book. I took sometime to get used to the style but once I did I couldn’t put the book down. My favorite character was Leisle’s best friend “Jesse Owens”. He quickly leaped into my heart and left a huge impression. I recommend this book to everyone who likes to read.
