Guest Rant – A Real African Dog
by Donna Hansen

One day Baby’s friend from across the street, Z, started pounding on our front door. I opened it, my first mistake. “Where’s Baby? There’s a hurt bird out here he has to see!” Z exclaimed. I thought ‘Boys and their desire for the Horrific.’ While Baby went outside to inspect the injured bird, I put Boomer the Basset Hound in the backyard, his Kingdom, and went out to start the truck. We had errands to run. I pulled around the corner to grab that child of mine. He and Z were watching the bird flutter around only about an inch off the ground. The poor thing would fly a foot or two and fall back to the ground. While it looked ok, it definitely wasn’t. As it was fluttering around it flapped through … Click Here

Kate’s Escapades – Caution…what we say is not necessarily what we mean

Why is it that what men and women say is often not what they mean?  Here’s a translation guide to help keep you out of hot water with your significant other… What Women really mean when we say… (1) ” I’m fine” – Things are not fine and I’m mad at you.  (The word ‘fine’ actually stands for freaked out and angry) (2) “I’ll be ready in five minutes” If she is getting dressed, or touching up the make-up or hair,  this means a half an hour.  Five minutes is only five minutes if YOU have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house. (3) “Nothing” in reply to you asking what’s wrong – This is the calm before the storm. Nothing DOES NOT mean nothing. … Read entire article »

Liz’s rant: Proof that diet pills don’t work

How sick are you of seeing those before-and-after ads for magic diet pills? Seriously! Of course, trying to get away from them is no easy task. They’re on the radio, the TV, the internet and in magazines. All I can say is promises, promises. (Or maybe, liar, liar, pants on fire). You know the lines: “I don’t have to WORRY about what I eat! I just take one magic pill before each meal and watch the pounds fall off!” Of course there’s my all-time favorite: “Now, my husband calls me his trophy wife.” Which begs the question, “what did he call you BEFORE?!?!” (I think you see where I’m going with that one…) The most amazing part of these ads, though, has to be the fact that all these diets not only make the pounds melt … Read entire article »
