Get your party on 3/29-4/4

I loved the French doors in my old house that separated my office from the rest of the house. I miss those doors. No French doors in this house. I often admire people in relationships, too.  I don’t even remember the last time I went out on a date. I’d love to have a flat-screen TV. Alas I do not. We’ve got the old style boxy models that the buttons are giving out on. Why do I mention this? March 30 is The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side of the Fence Day. … Read entire article »

Kate is my hero!

Now if I could only get her to go to the store for me… Seriously, her menu plans were exactly what I needed. I discovered on taco night that the Birds Eye Southwestern-style frozen rice is quite tasty, and definitely a perfect have-on-hand side for all that is Mexican. … Read entire article »

I’ll have what Kate’s having…

It started in the grocery store yesterday afternoon. I’d decided to fix tacos. Usually, I keep it really (really) simple: shells, seasoned meat, Mexican cheese. I fill the taco shells prior to baking, making the tacos a tad bit easier to eat. And with only meat and cheese inside, I’m pretty much assured of the kids eating at least one. But the other day, my brother mentioned his version of taco-making. Frankly, I was impressed. … Read entire article »

Get your party on 3/22 – 3/28

Those of us who boast fairly rebellious natures can relate to the theory that when something is deemed appropriate or acceptable, that something tends to lose its appeal. For example, today, March 22,  is International Goof-off Day. When you see the word “National” or “International” preceding the holiday itself, it’s, shall we say, a bigger deal than those holidays that stand on their own, like As Young as You Feel Day (which is today as well). Anywho, my point is that since someone declared, and people agreed, on an international level that March 22 is a day to goof-off, my first inclination is that I have work to do! No time for goofing off, today. Maybe I’ll goof off tomorrow, though, when I suspect it will be a bit less acceptable. But … Read entire article »

Liz’s Rants – The mouse saga continues

Here’s a quick update on the mouse… or mice. Or, following the goose/geese singular to plural, is it mouse/meese? Whatever the case, our mice/meese status changed a mere 3 minutes before University of Louisville captured its first Big East title (see, Dad? I do pay attention.) … Read entire article »

Get your party on 3/15 – 3/21

What says spring better than sugar coated marshmallows, in shapes of bunnies and chicks that get stuck in your teeth and add empty calories to your daily caloric intake.  Well, not much I can think of. In fact, they say spring so well that March 15 is Peeps Day. It is my humble opinion that Peeps Day can be stretched into Peeps Season, meaning that it is appropriate (and probably should be mandatory) to eat one peep a day between now and Easter. … Read entire article »
